Whether it’s Sappho with her late-in-age passion for sunlight, or the "Homeric

Hymn to Dionysos" in which the fragrant wine flows through the length of the

black boat, or Archilochos almost dead with desire, this image of ancient Greece

accompanies me again today traveling long distances over airwaves of the oral

tradition. I told friends I wanted to talk, even caught myself speaking aloud along

the trail about the miraculous etched inside the ordinary. When the white ship

turned at just the right moment I took it as a sign of a woman’s Soul I know

inside out. The fox I saw, but once, accompanied me in memory, while ledge

stones kept watch. I woke this morning from a dream with tickets for my own

desired itinerary on KLM, no less, landing in Amsterdam to Tenerife, Madrid &

Athens, the tickets blue & white like the Grecian flag; my unconscious having

swallowed more than wine the day before, downing colors, scents, images,

intonations & destinations.
